Waterside Hotel,Dublin, Ireland

We stayed at the Waterside Hotel in Donabate, in North County Dublin, Ireland. This is what we thought:

I have stayed at the Waterside on two occasions; once while pregnant and the other with an 8 month old baby. The Waterside is not a fancy hotel but it is small and homely. The hotel is right on the beach and overlooks the water so there are great walks to do with kids or a run around on the beach to burn off some energy is convenient (but beware in Ireland it is very common for people to drive on beaches so be careful).

Donabate is in north county Dublin, on the Drogheda train line easily accessible from the city centre. The Waterside is out of Donabate village and it’s probably best get a taxi or call the hotel to see if they can collect you.

On our first stay I had missed dinner and by the time I got hungry (you know what pregnancy appetite is like) EVERYTHING was closed, my husband enquired with reception where he could get me something to eat and the night receptionist simply told him not to worry, that he remembered what it was like when his wife was pregnant and headed to the kitchen to make me a cheese sandwich. It was very very kind of him.

We stayed at the Waterside Hotel in Donabate, in North County Dublin, Ireland. This is what we thought; Unfortunately we had virtually no hot water in our room on that occasion but all else was fine. The rooms are a little tired but the hotel is reasonably priced by Dublin standards, rooms are warm, the beds are comfy and the view is great.

Food at the bar is good and on Sundays there is a roast dinner available and the service is friendly.

On our second stay we had our baby with us, hotel rooms are upstairs so you will need help to get a pram up. Housekeeping staff delivered a portable cot straight away and set it up for us. Reception staff were again very friendly and willing to help. When the kettle in our room wasn’t working and we needed to heat baby food, a new kettle was delivered to us straight away.

The room we were in didn’t have a bath so it was a shower or nothing for bub. We took our baby into the bar/bistro area for a meal and there was no problem, a high chair was offered and we were asked if we needed any bread or anything similar for the baby.

Breakfast can be served in rooms which we always find easier than trying to rush around getting our little one ready before breakfast stops being served.

All in all the Waterside is a nice quiet hotel away from it all, it’s not a fancy five star hotel but it is cozy and friendly.
