Gaze Away Holiday Apartments, Caloundra, QLD

Bec and her family recently spent 4 nights at the Gaze Away Holiday Apartments in Caloundra on Queesnland’s Sunshine Coast. Here is Bec’s review of the apartment:

(TWT-Gaze away apartments can be booked through a number of websites including Caloundra Holiday Centre and Stazy.com.au)

We stayed in Unit 9 of the Gazeaway , which is located at 40 Esplanade East, Kings Beach (Sunshine Coast.) We went with a 5 month old, 22 month old, 2 year old and 4 year old (my kids and my sister’s kids). There were 2 families staying in the apartment.

There were no additional charges for children. The apartment slept up to 8 people. We paid $500 for 4 nights which was significantly cheaper than a cabin at the caravan parks, as we could all share the apartment rather than getting 2 cabins.

Our kids are used to travelling, so they were excited about being on holidays and near the beach! The apartment was fantastic. It had 3 bedrooms – 1 had a queen bed (and we put the porta-cot for Savannah our 22 month old ). This was a very large room. One had a single bed and a trundle, and the other had a double bed and 2 singles. All had gorgeous views and plenty of wardrobe space for storing clothes. The room with the double bed had a balcony attached with a clothes line.

The unit also had a well equipped kitchen, including a dishwasher, oven and microwave, and a lounge room which had a DVD player. There was a main balcony attached to the lounge room, which had views of the beach. This balcony had an outdoor table so we spent most meals here.

The unit had a cupboard with games and books. These were great for the kids. There were a few DVDs suitable for the kids but we usually take our own too so they could watch their favourites.

There is also a private pool for Gaze Away guests. As this was an apartment not a hotel; we bought our own portacots and you were required to bring your own bedding (sheets, pillow cases and towels). The unit had a washing machine and dryer, so you could do washing if you wanted.

The location was superb. It was a short stroll to Kings beach, along with Caloundra pool (so you could choose to swim either at the beach or the pool). The pool was great for kids. It was shallow enough for them to paddle on their own, and at the deepest was 1.8m. Right near the unit was the Kings Beach playground and water park (water fountains that spurt up – great fun).

We were initially concerned that there was no air conditioner. But after being there we realised it wasn’t needed as there were lovely sea breezes.

The way the rooms were set up, there were only 3 per level. We were on level 3, and on the end. There was a little entry area (which you could lock up), where we left our prams rather than taking them into the unit. There were lifts which helped when we had the prams (although the kids loved walking up and down the stairs). Except for the ground floor, you needed a key to access the lifts, which made you feel reassured about safety.

This truly was a fantastic getaway. The pool and beach are both serviced by lifeguards so you can rest assured you will be safe swimming. There is plenty to do in the Sunshine Coast, amongst other things we took in the Ginger Factory and Aussie World (great value - $25 for unlimited rides).

TWT- The apartment sounds wonderful Bec, thanks for sharing your review.
