Best Western Motel, Melbourne

We stayed at the Best Western Airport Motel in Attwood, Melbourne, Australia. This is what we thought:

We recently took the very long trip from Victoria to the UK. The airport we were flying out of is several hours drive from our home so we started looking around for an airport hotel to break up the journey a little more. We decided not to stay at the actual airport but instead opted for the nearby Best Western Airport Motel as it is close to shops and parks for us to be able to take bub for a stroll and relax without being in the madness of the airport for an extra day.

We arrived at the hotel mid-afternoon the day before flying out to give ourselves time to stretch out and relax a little before the long flight early the next morning. The travel cot was already in our room waiting for us and cot blankets were also provided. The room was like a small unit which suited us really well it meant plenty of crawling room for an active little guy.

The room was equipped with a kitchen sink and small fridge as well as an extra fold out couch and a separate bathroom (although no bath, just shower.)

The rooms are great for families, with plenty of space to spread out and the motel units are located at ground level so no stairs for prams to contend with. The reception staff were friendly and efficient, at one stage we called to request a couple of extra pillows (to be used to help baby proof the room) and they arrived within minutes.

Within walking distance there is a small supermarket and chemist if you need to stock up on baby supplies as well as a fish and chip shop and pub with bistro meals. The big fast-food restaurants are all within a couple of minutes drive. The hotel does have a restaurant but the prices were a little high so we ate at the local pub where bub was very welcome and there were quite a few kids in for dinner. There is also an in-room minibar.

The Best Western provides a long term car parking service for $5 a day which was cheap compared to other airport parking. They also provide a 24 hour shuttle service to and from Melbourne Airport but make sure you book on when you check in.

The rooms were quiet and clean; the shuttle service was on time leaving the hotel and was quite quick to pick us up at the airport on return. Overall we found it a much more pleasant option than staying in the hustle and bustle of the airport but conveniently we were still only a few minutes away. We will definitely use the Best Western Airport Motel on future trips.
